The Museum

Our long standing historical team, composed of dedicated residents Jan Diprose, Mike Green, Mike Hassett and Garry Lawrence, first joined forces over a decade ago to curate a Herald Island collection for the 2013 Auckland Heritage Festival and from there the fascinating collections have continued to grow.

The Museum is operated by the Herald Island Museum Subcommittee (HIMS) which is a subcommittee of the Herald Island Residents & Ratepayers Association Incorporated and was formed in 2013.

We aim to preserve the history and heritage of Herald Island for current and future residents by maintaining and updating the exhibits and records held in the Old Post Office Museum.

We extend the invitation to residents and visitors to come and experience the rich tapestry of our island’s history at your leisure.
